Wessex at The British Championships
Wessex took a small team to compete at the 2010 British Championships on the 30th January. This was always going to be a hard year with most players just making their first competitions in the next age group up.

With the competition so close to Christmas it was always going to be a challenge for some of the players to make weights after a good Christmas!!

Wayne after some serious dieting managed to squeeze back into -63kg and was hoping for a better draw than last year, Lottie had a dream the night before that she would meet Caroline Fisher in the second round and Wayne would meet Micheal Harvey in the second round and would you believe it she was right!!! so Wayne got hit with the rough end of the stick yet again, he played well in the first round and beat his player convincingly however after such a good performance against Micheal last year it was always going to be a tough fight. True to form Micheal came out all guns blazing and Wayne did well to only lose 5-0, lets hope the draw favours Wayne next year. Lottie true to her dream met Caroline in the second round and as Lottie had a bye in the first thtis was her first fight. A good Christmas and a move to seniors made this especially hard as Lotties Normal weight is -49kg so fighting at
-53 was going to be tough and playing probably one of the best british female players we have ever had made the job even harder, she did everything she could but Caroline was too strong for her and eventually this showed in score 8-1 to Caroline.

Melissa was up next and although did not fight to her potential did manage to beat the player and win yet another British Championship Gold Medal well done!!

Christy managed to beat her opponent in the semi with a good performance but was unable to carry this to the final and lost but getting a credible Silver Medal after only 3 months back training.

Chelsea on the back of a bad performance in London wanted to right the wrongs and boy she did that!!! she performed extremely well only losing in the final round after a mistake saw her step out of the ring to give her opponent the advantage.

Overall we had some good results and look foward to improving on this in the coming years.
