Belgian Open 2008
Wessex took the usual crowd to the Belgian Open in the form of Lottie, Wayne and Kayleigh all looking to build on their previous performances this year. Wayne was first up and was looking to put into action some fancy footwork however the mats on his ring were brand new and like an ice rink making things real hard for him to implement his game, better luck next time! Kayleigh was fighting for the first time in -59's and was in no mood for a bad performance and went out to win her first fight and that she did albeit on golden point but hey a win is a win!! Her next fight went even better with Kayleigh winning 9 - 5, one more win would be a medal placing but unfortunately Kay just couldn't manage to pull it off losing 5 - 3 however she has a lot to be proud of this being her best performance internationally and proving -59 is the right group for her!! Lottie had a lot to prove after medaling at the German and wanted to stay on that winning streak and she certainly managed to do that beating Germany 5 - 2 and then following up and beating Turkey 3 - 2 both hard fights, this didn't leave enough in the tank and unfortunately Lottie ran out of steam in the last round losing 4 - 3 but in so gaining Yet another international bronze medal. Well done Wessex yet another superb performance!!

Wessex TKD Medal in Germany
Still hunting for a spot on the British Team Lottie and Kayleigh had trained like demon's in preparation for this competition kowing that a medal here could see them attending the World Champs. Wayne also was in no mood for a bad performance and entered the ring in probably the best mental state I have yet seen, again however the EBP's did there thing and although Wayne fought really well ended up getting beaten by a right hook everytime he closed the opponent down showing that these things could alter the way Kyorugi is played drastically. Kayleigh was very unlucky and after darwing the raised centre court broke under the pressure and didn't have a good game, however some good came out of it with Me instructing Kay to move up weights as I was sure that had something to do with her performance. Lottie was up last again but this time any nerves were far away, after drawing the european silver medalist in the first round Lottie was detrmined to prove she was good enough to be up there with the best and she did just that with a very close fight ending with lottie scoring a 2 point head shot with 3 seconds to go taking her into the Quarter finals with a win 5 - 4. The next player Lottie fought was an American girl who has won the junior olympics on numerous occasions and had already dispatched of her first opponent with remarkable ease, again Lottie showed great determination taking the fight to the wire only narrowly losing out 7 - 5 after a great performance, the American went on to beat her opponent in the Final by 7 point gap shortly in to the second round making Lotties fight the real Final!! Now gaining a Bronze medal Lotties has gained the medal she needs to be considered for the Junior Worlds!! Good Luck

Dutch Open 2008
With the selction procedure out and Kayleigh and Lottie in with a shout of being selected for the National Team winning a medal at the Dutch, German or Belgian open's were a must if they stood any chance of attending the Junior World Championships. Unfortunately things did not go quite as planned with Wayne losing 7 - 0 and Lottie losing 8 - 1 thing did not go well proving that with all the preparation and traing things can still go wrong on the day and this time nerves were a big factor unlucky guys!
Kayleigh did put up a spirited fight and on her first outing at the Dutch did well to only lose on Golden Point in the first round but even Kay could have done better and panicked losing 2 points in the last round which took the fight to Golden point.

Looks Like Germany and Belguim need to be the one where we medal!!

Wessex travel to Sweden to Kick start the new year
Wessex Taekwondo Association travelled to Sweden on the 8th February to start the new year with a kick.

The competiton was using the Electronic Body Protectors and this was the first time we had seen them in action so things were going to be interesting!

Christy Lamb had the unenviable position of first up and unfortunately did not adjust to the EBP's in time losing out 3 - 1. Next up was Abi and after moving up a weight catagory found things tough facing a much taller opponent losing 3 - 0. Next up was Wayne hoping to have a better draw than last year after drawing the gold medalist in the first round, Lady Luck seems to have an issue with Wayne again seeing him play the eventual Gold medalist in the first round not to say Wayne didn't put up a decent fight only losing 1 - 0. Hoping to change our fortunes Chelsea Welch was up next nad after a brilliant effort came away winning Gold 3 - 1. Looking to keep up the good work Melissa Lamb wnet on to win her first fight in the dying seconds 7 - 6 but was unlucky in the final losing by just 1 point 6 - 7 however a well deserved Silver! Next up was Kayleigh Broom and hoping to get off to a good start this year, however she proved that these EBP's are not infallible and after what should have been a comfortable win by any other standard left Kayleigh not registering a point!
Lottie was last on as per usual and looked in great form winning her her first fight 7 - 0. Her second fight was a little more trouble with Lottie winning on Golden Point with a PUNCH!! moving on to the final carrying an injury Lottie fought with dogged determination as her foot worsened as the fight ensued, unfortunately even standing was an issue and Lottie ended up losing 4 - 2 with me having to support her to even shake the hand of her opponent. All in all a great effort from all who took part and I look foward to some more great performances later on in the year!!

British Championships 2007
We ended the year at the British Championships and for those who didn’t hear the results, Wessex managed 3rd place overall on the first day with some great performances from the Child, Cadet, Novice Junior and Novice Senior groups, considering that 63 teams took part this was truly an incredible result, especially considering some of the results we had were not as we had hoped. If everyone had performed as expected we may have even come higher! Probably the most pleasing for me as a coach is that if we can get 3rd place with some sub par performances, with work and training we can do even better, a great target for 2008.
